چکیده

This paper considers the scheduling problem in a new slotted optical network called Time-Domain Wavelength Interleaved network (TWIN). The TWIN architecture possesses interesting properties, which may offer solutions for next-generation optical networks. Besides, better Quality of Service (QoS) could be achieved in TWIN by minimizing two parameters: queueing delay and delay variance. However, to the best of our knowledge, most of the existing scheduling algorithms in TWIN ignored consideration of QoS and focused mainly on maximizing the throughput. In this paper, we formulate the scheduling problem into an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) problem and propose a novel heuristic – Destination Slot Set (DSS) algorithm to solve it fast and efficiently. Besides, we derive an analytical model for TWIN and investigate the performance of DSS in it. By means of simulations, we demonstrate that our analytical model approximates the TWIN network very well; moreover, DSS incurs smaller queueing delay and delay variance, which ensures

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks

Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...

Providing deterministic quality of service in slotted optical networks.

This paper proposes an efficient framework for deterministic service guarantees in slot-based optical networks. The framework uses the combination of a control plane and a data plane to solve the complex problem of capacity allocation, slot-matching and traffic scheduling. The control plane implements admission control and capacity allocation to source-destination node pairs and the data plane ...

Improving Bandwidth Efficiency in a Multi-service Slotted Dual Bus Optical Ring Network

The paper proposes two IP packet aggregation techniques, called DAT (Deterministic Aggregation Technique) and WATT (Workconserving Aggregation Technique with Timer), to adapt IP traffic to a multi-service optical slotted network. To perform aggregation, IP packets belonging to different classes of service (CoS) are polled according to the strict priority (SP) or to an hybrid version of the prob...

Scheduling algorithms for multicast traffic in TDM/WDM networks with arbitrary tuning latencies

We consider all-optical TDM/WDM broadcast and select networks with slotted operation. Each network access node is equipped with one fixed transmitter and one tunable receiver; tuning times are not negligible with respect to the fixed size slot time. We discuss efficient scheduling algorithms to assign TDM/WDM slots to multicast traffic in such networks. The problem is shown to be NP-hard; thus,...
